Carefree Arizona has celebrated more than 50 years as a community and was designed to provide its residents and visitors with an inviting atmosphere for all to enjoy. It is a great example of the new west.

The town's population really enjoys a sense of community and ranch-size space to call home. Carefree is one of the oldest master planned communities in Arizona (but still not very old). Planned in the 1950s with its residential areas surrounding a vibrant and inviting town center, it is home to one of the world’s largest sundials which spans 62 feet and points to the North Star. The town’s earliest moto was “Carefree where the sun marks time."

There is also a nature trail, amphitheater and two play areas for kids. This is truly a community designed for leisure with a mix of southwestern culture. Even the street names represent Carefree’s laid back attitude with names such as Easy Street, Tranquil Trail and Ho & Hum Roads.

Surrounding the town center, there are numerous shops, galleries, and restaurants enclosed in the mostly southwestern architecture that is reminiscent of a small Spanish village. All areas of town have extraordinary views of nearby Black Mountain with its eastern side brown-boulder outcroppings that make it appear distinctly different than the namesake western side.

Events are a big part of the community with the town fully utilizing the quaint town center to its fullest. Art and Wine festivals are plentiful throughout the Fall/Winter/Spring season providing the perfect excuse to take a stroll through the center of town. There are also numerous places to sit and relax while enjoying the carefree lifestyle to its fullest including evenings with the recent addition of gas lamps throughout the town center.

Popular restaurants include the Giordano's Trattoria Romana, the English Rose Tea Room, and Cellar 13. Many have outdoor dining space to help you enjoy the spectacular Arizona weather in Carefree style!
